Strong National Matchplay Performance in Junior Section
On the bank holiday weekend at the start of June PJ Ryan put in a superb performance at the National Matchplay championships to secure a medal by making it all the way through to the semi final.
In the first round he defeated Gerard Lee of Tralee 3&2 to progress to the second round. The second round saw PJ up against Paul Walsh of Collins who had defeated another Ardnacrusha representative in Brian Dillon, by 2up to get to the second round tie with PJ. PJ emerged victorious with a 5 & 4 victory to qualify for the quarter final.
The quarter final saw PJ up against Richard Tinley of Killineer and PJ raced to a convincing lead of 7 up through 18 in this one, eventually defeating the Louth man 5 & 3 to progress to the semi final.
In the Semi Final he was up against Padraig Hannon of Fermoy, Padraig proved to be a tough opponent and led PJ 4up after 18 holes, PJ done what PJ does best and gritted his teeth to try and fight back but unfortunately the Cork man emerged with a 3&2 victory leaving PJ with the Bronze medal in the championship.
All of us at the club wish PJ a huge congratulations as he put on an excellent performance in his first appearance in a national competition when representing Ardnacrusha. A bronze National medal puts him in a select category of players to win national accolades and is no mean feat!
Here he is pictured with Davie Reddan, President of Pitch and Putt Ireland presenting him with his medal.
Well Done PJ!
